Air Scrubber by ActivePure has been evaluated in three peer-reviewed studies: a 2024 American Journal of Infection Control study (Trosch et al., DOI 10.1016/j.ajic.2024.03.013) recording a 70% decline in healthcare-associated infections across two ICUs; a 2025 AJIC study (Peel et al., DOI 10.1016/j.ajic.2025.02.008) showing over 99% inactivation of aerosolized SARS-CoV-2; and a 2024 PLOS ONE safety study (Selitrennikoff et al., DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0307031) finding no adverse effects in mice after 90 days of continuous exposure.

Continuous Disinfection Technology in Two Intensive Care Units

An experimental study in two separate ICUs (Louisiana and Kentucky) where ActivePure® technology ran continuously. Surface MRSA, fungi, and aerobic bacteria were measured before and after, alongside healthcare-associated infection rates. The study observed greater than 96–98% surface pathogen reduction and a 70% decline in HAIs.

Rapid Inactivation of Aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 and Other Respiratory Viruses

University of Texas Medical Branch researchers tested ActivePure® photohydrolysis technology against aerosolized SARS-CoV-2, with proof-of-concept results for RSV and monkeypox. Testing was conducted in controlled chamber environments, demonstrating rapid viral inactivation.

An open-access safety study exposing mice to therapeutic ActivePure® levels continuously for 90 days. Researchers monitored behavior, weight, food intake, blood chemistry, hematology, and airway histology, finding no differences between exposed and control animals.

Where This Technology Came From
ActivePure Technologies traces the technology to NASA-funded research into photocatalytic air treatment for sealed spacecraft environments. That research produced a catalytic process for breaking down airborne compounds without filtration — which the company later developed into the commercial technology we install.

A 2024 PLOS ONE study exposed mice to ActivePure® continuously for 90 days and monitored weight, blood chemistry, hematology, and airway tissue.
